MILWAUKEE |  2:1  | ILLINOIS STATE
UWM - Dorre (2nd)
ISU - Tejada (8th)
UWM - Lewers (26th)
Final

5:56 - Milwaukee looked great in the first half and fought hard in the second against a very determined ISU attack. Impressive win over a squad that just took down Marquette...who UWM plays on Monday. Here are the final stats. See you Monday at Engelmann!

5:50 - And there's you're final! Maria got the ball with 20 seconds or so left and just ran away from everyone to run out the clock. Milwaukee no 2-6-1 on the year!

5:49 - Lewers fouled and Milwaukee pushes back but called offside...30 seconds to go!

5:48 - ISU with the ball deep...1:30 left.

5:46 - Yikes! Tejada almost struck again as someone chipped her the ball and she shielded one if not two Panther defenders but her shot went just wide as Paige was coming out. This kind of play is not good for this SID's nerves...

5:45 - Shot from distance goes well wide for ISU. Just over 4 minutes remaining...

5:44 - And Holbert gets a yellow card with 5:30 to play. Milwaukee parents right in front of me joking that it would have been a "gold" card in stead of a yellow card if the game were one day later (She's turning 21 and it would have been a golden birthday)

5:39 - Amy with a nice cross but it goes over everyone. Nice bit of play for the Panthers there...if they can keep it up, a third goal would not be a stretch as ISU is pushing higher to find the equalizer.

5:38 - And there is that throw. Lewers for Mel...10:40 to go.

5:37 - LOTS of possession by Illinois State...Milwaukee has to do something up top to give them time to catch their breath. And as I type Maria makes a great run down the left sprung forward from Emma and her cross found a wide open Swittel but her shot was blocked by the recovering D. Lewers up to check back in on the next Panther throw...

5:33 - Emma back on for Sky and Twittel comes in for Lewers. 14:35 until the whistle.

5:32 - Panthers catch another break...Amy went down near mid field but play went on down the left side and the cross looked like another near handball by the back line but the ref lplay on...AND A GREAT SAVE BY PAIGE! Tejada was behind the D and Paige came out to block her! Huge moment.

5:25 - Stop of play as an ISU player (#17) is shown a yellow card for dissent. I'm not here to say who's right and who's wrong, but it looked an awful lot like Holbert held the ISU player...but I'm not wearing the black + white shirt. Mel and Maria now on for Krissy and V. 19:20 to go.

5:23 - A run by each team but ISU's was far more threatening...#25's cross from the left had some pace on it but Paige jumped the route so to speak and intercepted it. 24 minutes to go.

5:18 - V takes a bit of a tumble but gets back up. ISU held the majority of possession here in the second but their only real chances have been a shot wide and called offside. They'll need ot ease the pressure off the D here at some point though.

5:17 - Oof! Tatum takes one off the face to keep the cross from going through. Sky comes back on for Morgan. 31:05 to go in the game

5:14 - Phew! Panthers dodged a bullet there as the ISU attacker (#11) got behind but her shot went wide as Paige was charging.

5:12 - Another scary run by ISU called for offside. For what it's worth, Paige made the save anyway...

5:10 - Shoot. Milwaukee had numbers but Lewers tried to front the ball and tripped over it to negate the attack. V back on for Emma. A few mis-touches by Emma early and the midfield has been up for grabs it seems of late, leading to the quick switch. V also looked really good in the first half.

5:07 - My apologies on forgetting this part earlier, but it's back to the starting 11 for the Panthers here in the second.

5:06 - Judging by the crowds reaction, the ref might have missed a hand ball near the box by the Milwaukee D. The sun has come out and is right in my eyes looking at our defensive side.

5:04 - And the second half is underway as ISU starts with the ball.

5:00 - And a few first-half thoughts...this has arguably been Milwaukee's best first half of the season. They've possessed more than I've seen all season and had the ball in the final third a ton, resulting in two goals that neither of which were great but they shot the ball...ISU does have some speed that they'll need to watch out for. Tejada is dangerous every time she touches the ball and UWM is using quite a few freshmen today. Definitely will have to stay sharp in the second half...that said, so far the youngsters have looked good. Paige, Manski, Al, Tatum, Maria + Swittel are all freshmen who have played plenty of minutes today, with sophomores Sky and Emma also out there a lot. So far so good though for the banged up team...hopefully that holds through for 45 more minutes.

4:57 - A few halftime stats...

                  UWM        ISU
Shots             7               5
Saves            1               2
Corners         3               1
Fouls             5               5

4:47 - Phew! Just as I say nothing doing ISU plays a great through ball and it looked like the attacker would beat Paige...but the offside flag was up. We go to the break with Milwaukee holding a 2-1 advantage. Stats and more coming in a bit.

4:45 - If felt like some frantic moments as the back line was scrambling for a while on a few possessions by ISU but really nothing to show for it for the Redbirds. One minute to half

4:42 - Paige comes waaaaaaay out to boot what could have been a breakaway...hard to say if Amy was going to catch up with the long through ball or not. Either way, danger averted and now Sky comes on for Holbert. Nice little break for the birthday girl.

4:39 - And Maria now in for Morgan. 8:35 to play before half...and Swittel about to come on for Lewers.

4:36 - Great defensive play by Manski saves a breakaway for Illinois State! I haven't kept my eye on her much, but she seems to be playing with confidence in just her first collegiate start. Maria now up to check in...

4:33 - Ball goes out of play which brings Mel on for Krissy. ISU has made four subs so far, as well. 13:30 left in the half.

4:31 - Lewers having quite the first half as she rips one from inside the box on a break and the keeper just punches it as she was retreating to get back into position.

4:28 - Milwaukee in the right place at the right time as they had numbers in the box as Al found the ball at her feet and blasted it at the keeper. She made a nice save but the rebound went right to Lewers who buried it into the top of the net...no chance for the goalie.

4:27 - And Lewers makes it 2-1! Vienna now on for Emma.

4:24 - Oooooo unlucky play for the Panthers. More possession in and around the box for UWM and Holberts cross found Lewers who dropped it for Krissy but couldn't get out of the way of her shot and was called for a hand ball.

4:19 - Milwaukee with some good possession and connecting passes up high and Kelly Manski collects her first collegiate shot...she put it on frame but it was right at the keeper.

4:14 - More early excitement as Paige comes out to grab one in the box but can't bring it in...nothing happened from that encounter but less than a minute later and ISU's shot from the right pings off the cross bar. A little lucky there...15 minutes in now.

4:11 - Milwaukee gets a fortunate call to earn a corner but Amy's cross went over everyone. Both teams possessing plenty early on. Despite conceding the early goal, Milwaukee looks much sharper early on than they did their past few games.

4:08 - And just like that it's 1-1. ISU's most talented forward Rachel Tejada finds herself wide open inside the box and places it right inside the net. Already Tejada's 8th goal this season.

4:07 - I was going to say it will be interesting to see how Milwaukee deals with its line up adjustments today but they scored so fast, I'd say they're okay so far. For those wondering, Caity and Hannah are both out with injuries so there are three freshmen on D starting today.

4:06 - ISU with some decent possession and a free kick on the right side of the box but nothing too dangerous as Paige collects her first save.

4:03 - GOAL! Milwaukee jumps out to an early 1-0 lead just 100 seconds in. Lewers centered it from inside the box and Dorre was wide open...just let it tap off her foot and it dinged off the post and in.

4:01 - And we're underway! UWM starts with it going right to left...

3:59 - A shot of the field from my view...

3:55 - Before I forget, here are the starters for the Redbirds...Abby Van Deventer, Anna Stinson, Kyle Cross, Hannah Leinert, Rachel Tejada, Alyse Williams, Dagny Olso, Gabbi McArtor, Sara Stankoskey, Allie Newsom and Aryn Newsom in the net.

3:52 - Teams shedding their warmup gear and are getting set for the National Anthem. Milwaukee will go with their road gold tops, black shorts + black socks. ISU counters with their home whites with red numbers, black shorts + white socks.

3:40 - One more link for those that can't make it to ISU today...you can also listen live for free. Just click here. Their radio guy seemed to know quite a bit about Milwaukee so it should be a good listen.

3:36 - Or for the more visual fan...

3:35 - In addition to Hannah sitting, there are a few other changes to today's starting 11. Paige is in net, but her back line changes quite a bit...left to right it'll be Kelly Manski, Tatum, Alleina + Amy...the midfield will be Morgan on the left, Stern, Emma Worthington at attacking and Holbert on the right...Lewers and Krissy stay up top.

3:30 - Although Hannah is out of the line up today with an injury, she's still contributing to the team, finding this lucky cricket.

2:40 - Hello and welcome from Normal, Illinois! We just got to the field and the team is starting to loosen up. It looks like the rain will hold off today and conditions should be cloudy but dry with what seems to be a slight going from the left goal to the right. We'll have starters and line ups coming in a bit.

Also, a reminder that the game can be live streamed for a fee here.

We're just over an hour from kick off. Thanks for tuning in!
